Abstract Description
Institution: Catholic School Parents Australia - National, Australia
The Gearing Up for Parent Engagement Toolkit was developed for families and schools to help make the transition into primary and secondary school, a great experience for children and young people. This toolkit presents information that will assist the unique parent-child relationship to flourish into a meaningful partnership between home and school, aimed at improving the learning and wellbeing of each child.
The toolkit was developed from research that was conducted through primary and secondary Principal surveys, and interviews with principals and parent focus groups across all sectors of Australian schooling.
Schooling during COVID has shone a light on how the relationship between the school and family is foundational to each child’s learning and wellbeing. In this presentation we will address the foundations of developing strong and fruitful home-school partnerships by looking at the findings from the research and explore how the toolkit could be used with school staff and parents.
The next key part of the Toolkit is currently being developed and will take the form of Enhancing Parent Engagement Video Kits. When complete these videos will be used by families and school staff to enhance Home-School partnerships, through guided workshops in the areas of Health and Wellbeing, Learning and Moving Ahead.
